Having set an ambitious target to become a water-positive organisation by 2030, the client recognised the importance of achieving greater water efficiency across their estate through rainwater harvesting. The client’s locations were ideal for rainwater harvesting due to the large capture potential of their vast roof spaces and a high number of WCs located within stores for customers. Initially, a variety of suppliers were used to provide rainwater harvesting solutions for their stores, but the client soon realised the excellent reliability of Stormsaver Systems.

For their latest development, the client naturally specified Stormsaver to provide the rainwater harvesting equipment. Because the new store demanded high flow rates, our estimators proposed our non-pressurised rainwater harvesting system which could provide a sufficient supply of sustainable water for 60 toilets. We also specified a large 60,000-litre storage tank to make the most of the large collection potential from the roof area.

Stormsaver has also provided bi-annual maintenance services to this store and the client’s entire estate of rainwater harvesting systems on behalf of a facility management company. Just six years after installation, the system was found to have saved 3.4 million litres of water for the store. This is the equivalent of over three-quarters of a million toilet flushes (805,511 is the exact figure so far). The saving formed part of a wider saving from all the client’s systems, which, in total, had saved them over 8 million litres.
